This was my most rewarding shoot I have ever done. Period. When Mika and Hugo first inquired with me I had no idea that they were deaf. I believe I found out about 2 1/2 weeks prior to our shoot. They found out I did not know ASL and I was grateful for their patience as we FaceTimed. They tried to show me a few signs that we might need during our shoot. Then it occurred to me to not really digest their teachings, BUT only to surprise them. I was so blessed that I had a few friends back home that had taken sign language and they were willing to teach me ASL within the time frame I had. I had learn so many words along with ASL, they had no idea! The day of I had sent them a video of me signing, “Good Morning, my name is Liz. I am excited to work with you!” Mika was happy I knew sign. I will admit I was super nervous before us meeting, because I was worried all that I had learned would disappear and I wouldn’t have any contact with them. Luckily it didn’t and I was able to communicate with them! It was the most rewarding shoot because they pushed me to do something I had never done before. They helped me grow and learn something new. Now I know how to communicate ASL a lot more than before! The shoot was the same as any other-FUN! I think I even laughed more than normal. Love has no one language. It is all this emotion that takes over your body. They made taking pictures of them so easy! Congrats to Mika + Hugo on their engagement, your love is inspiring!!
